Ways to Tell If You’re Already Alcohol Dependent

For many people, the term “addiction” is exclusively associated with one thing. Admit it, the moment you hear the word, the first thing that comes to your mind is substance abuse or the use of illegal drugs; but the thing is there is another face of addiction that no one seems to be utterly concerned about. We’re talking about alcohol addiction.

But quite obviously, there is a very big difference between a banned substance or drugs to that of alcohol. Well, the main difference between the two is that when you use a banned substance, you’re doing something that could land you in jail, but if you drink alcohol, no one’s going to arrest you for that alone. However, this doesn’t deny the fact that there also is some connection or link between the two, and it comes in the form of addiction or dependency.

There’s nothing wrong if you’re drinking alcohol in moderation. However, there are unfortunate scenarios in which it no longer is possible to distinguish the fine line that separates moderation and dependence. 1 – You resort to drinking whenever you feel like you need to relax or you need to feel better.

In majority of the cases of alcohol addiction, the root cause is emotional. If you’ve been drinking a lot as of late and your reason is because you want to get rid of stress, anxiety, or depression, such act is widely regarded as a form of excuse to simply drink.

2 – It already has come to a point that you’re lying about your drinking.

This is called denial. Why would you lie about or hide the fact that you’re drinking if it’s only occasional or casual? The answer is quite clear – you no longer are drinking in moderation.

3 – You have completely lost the ability to stop once you start drinking.

Initially, you try to control yourself by saying that you only will have one drink. Sadly though, you eventually realize the next morning that you emptied more than a couple of bottles.
